HOW TO GET THERE: 

PENÍNSULA DE MARAÚ is located in the Costa do Dendê, state of Bahia, 180 km to the south of Salvador, 120 km from the north of Ilhéus.

GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION

South Latitude 13º 57' 10" - West Longitude 39º 08' 40". The climate is tropical and humid with the annual average temperature around 28° centigrade.

Most of our visitors arrive by car to Camamu and by boat to Barra Grande, through Camamu.

Maraú's nearest airport is in Ilhéus (IOS). The nearest international airport is in Salvador (SSA). Nowadays, Ilhéus's airport is served by TAM and Varig's daily flights, coming from São Paulo and Salvador. There are three approved runways (airfield) in the Península, for mono-engine and bi-motor planes.

 Through Camamu (Bahia) (ground) - Take Highway BR-101 from Salvador

 Use the Highway BR-101 up to Travessão, where you take the Road BA-001 Camamu x Valença. After 42 km, you will get to Camamu, where you can charter a speed boat for a 30-minute course, or take one of the boats that ride to Barra Grande in about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

We suggest the ferry boat, whose crossing between Salvador and Bom Despacho takes about one hour. From there, go on through the Road BA-001. There are 180 km of beautiful landscape up to Camamu. In case you go by car, you will easily find parking lots reasonably priced.

Through Itacaré - Take Highway BR-030

The Highway BR-030 crosses the Península de Maraú connecting the city of Ubaitaba by Highway BR-101 up to Ponta do Mutá. It is a driveable dirt road; however, during the rainy season, we recommend tall-bodied and tractioned cars (it takes about 3 hours to travel 90 km).  

In Itacaré, you cross the river Rio de Contas by ferry boat (15 minutes), follow a track of about 6 km up to the intersection of Maraú. The distance up to Barra Grande is about 45 km through Highway BR-030.
